Dutch viola Geerten Kooi, 2002

Dutch viola Geerten Kooi, 2002

€4,500.00

This beautiful viola built by violin maker Geerten Kooi is offered by a Dutch professional musician who has been playing the instrument since 2002. The viola is built after the example of the 'Mahler' viola that Antonio Stradivarius built in 1672. The then young Stradivarius (28 years old) may have built his first viola and was still strongly influenced by the work of his teacher Amati at this age. This is reflected, among other things, in the long, slightly drooping shoulders of the corpus and the relatively high arching of the top and bottom. Geerten Kooi was also clearly inspired by these style features. The length of the viola (body 41 cm) is also the same as that of the 'Mahler' by Stradivarius. The top is made of finely grained spruce and the back is made of a beautiful, mildly flamed piece of maple. The viola is finely built, as can be seen from the sharp inlay, stylish F-holes and tasteful golden red-brown oil varnish. An audio fragment will follow. The instrument is suitable for both advanced amateurs and professional musicians.
