Ernst Schetelig, 1932

€0.00

A magnificent, high-quality master violin. Ernst Schetelig crafted this instrument in 1932 with meticulous workmanship. It owes its striking appearance to a beautiful, fiery red oil varnish ("dragon's blood") that shows slight craquelure in places. Distinctive features—such as the broad purfling, narrow rounded corners, and a characterful, unique scroll—reveal the hand of an experienced master who worked with the utmost care and a refined aesthetic sensibility. The tone is brilliantly clear and sweet, projecting excellently and possessing a rich, singing resonance. A superb master violin for advanced and professional players, suitable for solo performance.

Schetelig, Ernst (Markneukirchen; born 1864, died 1943). A pupil of Adolf Paulus, he established himself as an independent violin maker in Markneukirchen in 1891. Together with Paulus, he had the opportunity to study rare Italian master instruments. His instruments stand apart from standard Markneukirchen production, displaying distinct individual characteristics. He utilized a beautiful, original red varnish ("dragon's blood"). A *viola d’amore* by him is held in the Markneukirchen museum collection. [Source: German and Austrian Violin Makers, Karel Jalovec].
