Elegant Old German bow
A beautiful German bow, probably made in Markneukirchen in the early 20th century. This octagonal bow, made of fine-quality Pernambuc, weighs 61 grams and has a rich volume and active playability – a beautiful bow suitable for most violins. The fine, rounded frog with silver fittings and silver accents on the back demonstrates the maker's attention to detail and craftsmanship. In excellent condition and fitted with new hair.
Information about the region of origin Bow making in the Markneukirchen region experienced a period of exceptional prosperity from the late 19th century until the outbreak of World War I in 1914. This was true not only for the quantity of bows produced but also for the quality of the bows produced by all the workshops. The workshops in Markneukirchen acquired a widespread reputation as the center of German bowmaking. At that time, despite the high quality and craftsmanship, it was common practice not to provide bows with the maker's name.
