French violin Breton Brevete

€2,000.00

Beautiful French violin with the inscription and label "Breton Brevete". In the early 19th century, the renowned French violin maker Francois Breton helped lay the foundation for the rise of Mirecourt as a leading European center for instrument making. Inspired by Francois Breton's violins, the famous workshops in Mirecourt soon adopted the brand name 'Breton'. This violin, made around 1900, likely originates from the renowned workshop of Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy. With its sharp purfling and characteristic transparent gold-orange varnish, it is a beautiful example of French craftsmanship. The violin has been optimally set up by the Amsterdam violin maker Bas Maas, from whom the violin was purchased in the past. The violin has a sound for which Breton violins are known: warm, open, clear, and very easy to play. This makes these violins highly popular among advanced students and orchestral players.
