German viola early 1900s

German viola early 1900s

€1,950.00

This beautiful alto was built after the model of Antonius Stradivarius and is a relatively small alto, with a length of 39.5 cm. The top is made of regularly grained spruce and the back, scroll and whorl of deeply flamed maple. The beautiful soft oil lacquer has a shining golden-brown color on a yellow background. The viola was probably built in Germany at the beginning of the last century. The builder is difficult to read from the handwritten label on the inside of the violin (Walthers of Walther opus no. 4). This hand-built viola, with a very tastefully carved scroll and sharp inlays, has a beautiful dark, warm sound with good volume for its size. The tone is balanced with a direct response (see the sound clip below).
